Teaching AI Skills the Way They Are Actually Learned
We started Minda Cerdas because we could not find a structured, honest AI programme built for Malaysian working professionals. So we built one ourselves.
Back to HomeWhere Minda Cerdas Came From
Minda Cerdas was founded in 2021 by a group of software engineers and data practitioners based in Kuala Lumpur who had spent years answering the same question from colleagues and friends: "How do I actually get started with machine learning?"
The short courses available at the time were either too shallow to be useful or assumed a mathematics background that most working professionals do not have. The long university programmes were not designed for people with jobs and families. There was very little in between.
So the founding team designed the curriculum they wished had existed when they were starting out — structured enough to follow without a guide, honest about the effort involved, and focused on producing working code from the very first week.
The school started with a single cohort of eighteen learners in early 2022. By the end of that year we had run three intakes and received enough feedback to know the approach was working. Today Minda Cerdas serves learners across Malaysia, from students finishing degrees to professionals in their forties who want to change the kind of work they do.
We are still a small team. That is deliberate. Staying small means our instructors can give real attention to real people, and it keeps us honest about what we promise and what we deliver.
Our Mission
To give people in Malaysia a clear, manageable path into AI development — one that respects their time, their intelligence, and their existing responsibilities.
Our Vision
A Malaysia where technical AI skills are spread across industries and professions, not concentrated in a narrow slice of the workforce.
Our Promise
We will tell you honestly what a course involves before you pay for it, and we will give you real support while you work through it.
Who Teaches and Supports You
Our instructors are practitioners, not just teachers. Every person on the team has built real AI systems and written production code.
Azri Kamarudin
Lead Instructor · AI Foundations
Former data engineer at a Kuala Lumpur fintech firm. Azri designed the AI & Python Foundations curriculum and leads the weekly live sessions for beginner cohorts.
Siti Liyana Razak
Instructor · Machine Learning
Machine learning engineer with six years of experience in NLP and recommendation systems. Siti leads the Applied Machine Learning course and runs code review sessions.
Daniel Tan Wei Ming
Instructor · AI App Development
Full-stack developer who now focuses on building and deploying AI-powered applications. Daniel leads the advanced course and mentors learners through their capstone projects.
Nadia Nor Hashim
Student Experience Lead
Coordinates enrolment, monitors learner progress, and makes sure questions get answered promptly. Nadia is often the first person you will hear from when you reach out.
Ravi Prasad
Curriculum & Content
Responsible for keeping course materials current as AI tools change quickly. Ravi reviews and updates content between cohorts and writes the supplementary reading guides.
Yap Chee Keong
Teaching Assistant · Python
A Minda Cerdas graduate himself, Chee Keong supports learners in the foundations cohort, hosts weekend office hours, and answers questions in the community forum.
Standards We Hold Ourselves To
These are not marketing claims. They are the actual commitments that shape how we design, deliver, and improve our courses.
Curriculum Updated Each Cohort
AI tooling changes rapidly. Before each new intake, the team reviews all course materials for accuracy and relevance, updating examples and tools where needed.
Learner Data Privacy
We collect only what is needed for course administration. Personal data is never sold or shared with third parties for commercial purposes.
Feedback-Driven Improvement
Every cohort ends with a structured debrief where learners share what worked and what did not. That feedback shapes the next intake directly.
Instructor Accountability
Live sessions are recorded and reviewed. Instructors are evaluated on explanation clarity, responsiveness to questions, and the quality of written feedback on assignments.
Clear Enrolment Terms
Course fees, what is included, cancellation conditions, and refund eligibility are documented clearly before payment. No ambiguity once you have committed.
Honest Scope, Honest Outcomes
We describe exactly what each course covers and what you can reasonably expect to be able to do at the end. We do not promise employment outcomes or unrealistic timelines.
AI Education in Malaysia — Our Perspective
The field of artificial intelligence has moved from niche academic research into everyday commercial and professional life over a short number of years. For people working in Malaysian companies across sectors — from finance and logistics to healthcare and retail — the pressure to understand AI tools is real, even when nobody has offered a clear path to doing so.
At Minda Cerdas we think the most useful thing a school can do is give learners a thorough, ordered grounding that transfers to real work. That means proper Python fundamentals, not just notebook snippets. It means understanding how a model is trained and evaluated, not just calling an API. And for learners ready to go further, it means learning how to package and deploy an application that others can use.
Our Teaching Approach
We have found that people learn programming by writing code, making mistakes, and fixing them — not by watching videos and then attempting exercises from memory. Our courses are built around this rhythm. Each week introduces a small number of concepts, applies them in a short exercise, and then asks learners to extend that exercise in a way that requires genuine understanding.
Mentors provide written feedback on submitted work within three business days. This is not automated feedback or generic rubrics — it is a specific response to what the learner actually wrote. Where something is working well, we say so. Where it could be clearer or more robust, we explain why and what to try next.
We keep cohort sizes manageable so that this level of attention remains possible. Minda Cerdas is not a platform that scales by adding more automated content. It is a school that scales by hiring more good instructors.
